A LARGE FIRE destroyed a duplex and severely damaged two
others at 54th Street & Landis Avenue in Sea Isle last week, and claimed the
life of an 89-year-old woman, while injuring two others. Fire crews from Sea
Isle City, Strathmere, Ocean City, Seaville, Belleplain, and Avalon battled
the fire. The Sea Isle Police Department gratefully acknowledged the
neighbors and the Sea Isle community in general for providing food and drink
for first responders during the 24-hour operation. The Sea Isle community
has also rallied around the families struck by the tragedy by donating food,
shelter, clothing, and financial assistance.
HONORING GEORGE H. W. BUSH: As the nation mourned the

Cape May honored him with canon fire and the U.S. flag flown at half-mast.
Captain Owen Gibbons, commanding officer of TraCen Cape May, said "U.S.
Coast Guard Training Center Cape May sends our heartfelt condolences to the
Bush family."
